"Filter of Lesser quality was shipped instead of the one listed" 2010-03-25

I ordered the 5231JA2006B/LT600P LG Refrigerator Replacement Water Filter Cartridge
removes the following impurities from your drinking water:

99.35% of Lead at pH 6.5
99.31% of Lead at pH 8.5
91.20% of Mercury at pH 8.5
96.70% of Mercury at pH 6.5
96.30% of Benzene
99.99% of Cysts
95.90% of Atrazine
99.09% of Lindane
93.06% of 2,4-D
97.60% of Chlorine
99.30% of Turbidity
99.90% of Particulates (Class I)

HOWEVER, instead I received the 5231JA2006A LG Refrigerator Replacement Water Filter Cartridge
removes the following impurities from your drinking water:

97.4% of Chlorine
93.2% of Particulates (Class I)

You can pick up the "A" cartridges for about $30, and they only remove Chlorine and 93% particulates.

I was unable to return via the web, and now have to contact Customer Service.

This the second Amazon approved vendor who sent me the wrong or bogus item

"Misleading" 2010-02-19
By Robert Williams
I like how the seller posts a very small photo of the packaging and never lists the LG Part number...

This items part number is 5231JA2006A...this is a discontinued item. It has been replaced by 5231JA2006B, which is the newer style filter which performs much better.

The LT600P (LG part number) is supposed to be the 5231JA2006B model number, which is the newer/more expensive filter compared to 5231JA2006A. Thus keep an eye out for that if you receive the A model as you can find it for less than $40 from many sellers. I incorrectly received the A model but was reimbursed by the seller.

As for the filter itself:

I just moved into this house and the fridge had a 5231JA2006B filter of unknown age - filter light wasn't on but water flow was slow - much, much slower than the water dispenser on my dad's maytag. Thus I thought I'd venture out and buy a new filter.

Well, I'm thinking (hoping) the old filter was actually fine since the water flow with this new filter is exactly the same - slow. Water doesn't taste any different and tasted fine before I changed it. I do find it kind of interesting that the instructions say to run the water dispenser for 5 minutes to flush out the old water - seems like a very long time to stand there cycling the smallish containers I can fit in the door well. I also held my filter button in for 3 seconds like instructed to reset it and nothing happened, except the light turned on (combo filter/light button). I was expecting a sound or led to light up or something. Hopefully this is normal as I believe the fridge was purchased recently.

So just be aware that the A filter is the older, discontinued filter and the B filter is more expensive and filters more contaminants.

"Exact replacement for Kenmore 9990 filter" 2009-12-16
By Vano Chu (NJ)
Great. Don't have to deal with the drive, the hunting around for the relocated filter shelf, and the interminably complex checkout process at Sears so I can get a replacement filter for my Kenmore Elite fridge anymore. Turns out the LG serial number is an match on both the old Kenmore filter and this LG one too (5231JA2006 -- the last letter is "A" on the Kenmore and "B" on this filter). No problems with installation and priming.

"I got 3 - maybe I'm lucky?" 2009-10-10

I bought this and received 3 in the mail for the price. It works fine, water from the door does taste better. Not sure if it was a fluke or not, but I did get a three pack in the mail.
