This filter is great! I have used several different brands over the years, and this is by far the best I have used. I suspect that only the General Ecology home filter is better, but have not had the fortune to try that yet.
A few notes: If you have hard water, a water filter will not magically clean the water. That is just silly. When I lived in Vegas, the filter improved the taste, but I still purchased distilled water refills. In Richmond, VA and Rochester, NY, the water comes out bottled water quality or better.
Another point is to not think that TDS means anything. TDS means the total dissolved solids, such as salts in the water. The Brita may outperform this filter in removing dissolved solids due to the ion exchange resin. That does not mean that the stuff you REALLY want out is out. This filter is far superior to the Brita, although it is not a taste neutralizer.
If your water is of acceptable taste right out of the tap, get this filter and love it. If you simply cannot drink your tap water, stay away from all filters.

This is a fantastic product. It's very compact so it works well in my tiny apartment sink - it fits right on the sink top at the back. As for the people who complained that the knob broke off, or the filter not lasting, I don't understand that. As with anything if you treat with care, it works perfectly. It is very sturdy and high quality. The instructions specifically warns NOT TO RUN HOT WATER THROUGH IT, or it will ruin the filter if you do it regularly. It is super easy to install (I only finger tightened it on the faucet) and use. Water tastes great. Much less effort than opening the refrigerator for the filter pitcher, and exponential more protection against harmful stuff in tap water. I am exceedingly pleased with this purchase.

THIS IS A WONDERFUL FILTER FROM A COMPANY THAT HAS A LOT OF INTEGRITY. To the people who said that Brita filters are better, I have to strongly disagree and wonder truly how much research they actually did before being so quick to dislike this filter. Brands like Brita and Purell are fine if you want your water to taste better, but if you truly are looking for water that is not only chlorine free but healthy and free of contaminants go with this one. I am a purist and I always want the BEST PRODUCT FOR THE BEST POSSIBLE PRICE ( don't we all. ) Again, this is the filter I decided to go with. I go to a holistic doctor in Beverly Hills who tests water. A while back I brought in water that I had from my Purell and Brita filtered water and my doctor said that they did not do a good job at filtering out contaminants and that I was drinking water that was only a little better than tap. For me that does not cut it. So I went on a long and extensive search for a good water filter. All of the good ones seems to be at least a couple hundred dollars and some of them were even as high as $[...]. One day when I was in Whole Foods, I came across the New Wave Enviro 10 Stage Water Filter. It was only $[...] which, yes is more than Brita or Purell but it is a lot less than anything else I found that looked adequate. AND IT IS ACTUALLY EFFECTIVE. I was hoping it would take out all the crap that is found in our tap water. fingers crossed I took the water that I filtered from it into my holistic doctor and he said that the water was VERY CLEAN AND FREE OF CONTAMINANTS. Since then this is all we use in our household. Yes the replacement cartridges are not the cheapest but they also only need to be changed ONCE A YEAR. You get what you pay for folks, and this filter is worth every single penny. The only thing I would say is if you drink a lot of water ( more than a half a gallon a day for a 4 person household ) I would change the filter once every 10 months to be extra sure the filter isn't over loaded. That is the only thing with ANY AND ALL water filters that have cartridges (Brita, Purell, etc...) all water filters need to be changed... this one is so great because it only needs to be changed once a year unlike the other filters that need to be changed every couple of months, and they don't even clean the water efficiently.
CHANGING THE FILTER BEFORE IT IS OVERLOADED IS VERY VERY IMPORTANT, otherwise the overloaded filter can actually dump the contaminants back into the water if the filter is over due. So mark your calendars. This company actually has a form you fill out and they will send you a reminder in the mail when it is time to change your filter. In my humble and extensive opinion, this is A GREAT FILTER FOR A GREAT PRICE.... TESTED AND PROVEN TO TRULY GIVE YOU CLEAN, HEALTHY WATER.

This unit is a great addition for apartment living. We can really tell the difference in water quality. The installation could not have been any easier and different adapters are provided if needed. After having a one piece countertop model -- this seems to be a great bargain. I like the fact that the filters can be replaced as needed. I thought I would get the adapter kit for under the sink installation -- but have found the counter top unit to be a great size and not in the way at all. My son really likes the fact the water comes from its own spout - and would rather get the water from there than out of the refrigerator. Works great for filling up water bottles for on the run. Enjoy!

I was really excited to get this filter, and had been using the pitcher type filter for quite some time. The taste of the water was not bad. However, sometime during the first day of drinking the water I started to get a headache and felt sick to my stomach. I did not think too much about it and thought it was something that I ate until I started to feel the same way again the next day. I realized it was from the water when I began speaking to my daughter, who had also been drinking water from the filter and realized that she was feeling the same way! I immediately went to the store and bought some bottled water and we drank a lot to cleanse our system, within the first few house of not drinking the water from this filter we both began to feel better. I am not sure why it made us sick, but I would not purchase this product again. It got returned by the fourth day.
